It is so past my bedtime

So much to write about, so little time.  I need to write about ConClave, and I need to write about the new toy I bought on the way to ConClave, and now I need to write about the new toy I bought today, based on experience at ConClave.

But all that I have time to write about is that my hat (for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party of course)  is ready.  I am not going to be so bold as to say that I will win the best hat, but if I don't make some people spew their drinks I am gonna be disappointed.  You have been warned.

While on the subject of OVFF:  Anyone for dinner, Friday or Saturday?  I will probably skip the banquet.  If I actually had an alternate plan for dinner on Saturday, I could know I was skipping the banquet, which would be even better.

New toy 1

For months, I have been drooling over the Canon 70-300 DO IS USM zoom lens, based on what I'd seen on web sites.  I located a store that actually has one in stock in Indianapolis, and I stopped there Friday on the way to ConClave, having made the decision to buy it if it was actually what I expected from the web site.

Now, of course, I need to cut a new foam insert for my camera case in my copious free time.

Aliens ate my ConClave report

I just spent the last two hours or so writing a long, thorough conrep for 'Clave.  As I reached to add the cut tag, the text vanished from my LJ client.  Gone.  Poof.  I am very displeased (if you don't like strong language, be glad you weren't in my house just now!), and I do not have time to reconstruct the whole report.

This was a great con.  It may be the best con experience I've ever had that wasn't at (a) a filk con, (b) a worldcon, or (c) DucKon (which has a multi-year track record of being the best little gencon around).  I don't usually do 'Clave -- the Octover-November time period already has one con too many without it -- but after having this much fun this year I will have to think hard about going again next year.
