The new magic set hit a few weeks ago, which means it was time for Game Day today, and I wished to compete. The first deck I made for this Standard was black/white warriors, and it sometimes did OK, but the more I played with it the less I thought it would go the distance. I tried making a Jeskai shenanigans deck but I did a bad job and it was a dud. Thursday night, thinking I would be playing the warriors deck, I played a few games against Steve Jasper's Abzan midrange deck and he walked over me like a threadbare rug. Yesterday at FNM I lamented that I just didn't have the cards to build an Abzan deck, and Carl agreed to lend me some of the key ones. I also lent him some pieces for a Jeskai deck. I threw the deck together and showed up. I ended up going 3-2, finsihing 6th overall (proving that I don't understand how tiebreaks work, I expected to be several places lower), so I got the top 8 promo card, 2 packs, and a door prize I was happy with, and I had some good matches. So a successful day of magic.
