There were actually enough people to make Standard happen at FNM tonight. I wanted to win, so I was running my Abzan midrange. I started off off balance when Dave read out pairings while I wasn't paying attention, but I managed to fight through my own tiltedness to win my first two matches. The third match ended up tied 1-1 at time, and the tiebreak fairy favored me for once, so I actually won. Got a bunch of packs for my prize, which were worth a lot more than my $5 entry fee even after I opened them.

Match 1 was against Jennifer. I don't know her last name, when I asked her name she only gave her first name, and Dave never posted stuff. She was playing a red-black dragons deck. She didn't seem to know how her deck worked; even though I was seriously discombobulated when I sat down, I played my deck better than she played hers, and I think mine is a lot better. 1-0. Round 2, I played Steve Jasper, who was also running Abzan, but he was running the more aggro version with Fleecemane Lion and Rakshasa Deathdealer. Game 1 was fairly tight for a while, but I managed to keep Ajani, Mentor of Heroes on the field. I actually pulled off his ultimate. Then game 2, we both went to 6 cards, and he kept a 1 lander. I was a bit light on lands too but I recovered a lot faster. 2-0. Round 3, I was playing Brandon. I can't remember his last name, and again, not posted. He was running 4 Color Company. Game 1, he had me on the back foot the whole time. I made an important misplay when he swung with two monstrous Fleecemane Lions, one with an extra +1/+1 from a Dromoka's Command, at my Ajani Steadfast with 5 loyalty. I should have chumped the big kitty, which would have left Ajani on the field at 1 so I could get another hit with lifelink, but I didn't. I think I would have lost anyway. Then game 2, I drew all my removal. He'd play a threat and I'd kill it, but I couldn't find a creature for a long time. I finally got some creatures and managed to win as time ran out, making the match 1-1 and leaving me 2-0-1 for the night.

I like playing this deck. Putting +1/+ counters on my things makes me happy. Synergy with my +1/+1 counters makes me extra happy.
