Windycon is looking unlikely. Help?
Nov. 2nd, 2006 10:21 pmMy best hope for dog care over Windycon has failed. My neighbor with the kennel is full for the weekend, and won't consider taking care of the dogs at my house. And she told me to go jump in a lake in such a bright perky way that I begin to wonder if she ever thought I was anything but pond scum.
If I don't find someone I can rely on to come to my house four times over the weekend, I can't go. I have not missed a Windycon since I started going to conventions in 1978. Right now this has me really upset. Next week it will probably have me really depressed.
If you know someone who'd be willing to do this, please have them get in touch. I'm looking for someone I can pay a reasonable, or even moderately unreasonable, amount of money for it. I don't want to beg a favor from a friend, but if a friend or a combination of friends are willing to do it, I will be grateful. However, leaning on friends is clearly not a long-term solution; this will keep coming up, at least as long as Windy hangs on, every time I want to be away from my house for more than 12 hours. I will be asking vets if they can recommend anyone, but in the past they haven't been any help.
Please, somebody, help me find a pet sitter.

Date: 2006-11-03 04:58 am (UTC)i also wouldn't jump to conclusions about your neighbour -- because really, an emergency on your part does not constitute one for her, and that's her right, you know? and that doesn't mean she thinks you're pond scum. she might just be busy enough that she doesn't want to add to her load.
anything useful here?

Date: 2006-11-03 07:47 pm (UTC)I live 10 minutes from the Windycon hotel. You can bring your dog(s) here and you can care for it (them) yourself. We can keep him(them) in my kitchen. I'll be rooming with Jan at the CON, so I won't be home.
I'd hate for you to miss Windy.

Date: 2006-11-03 10:09 pm (UTC)Fortunately, I have found a pet sitter that I think will be able to handle it. A little expensive (well, actually a lot expensive; dog care will be almost as much as the hotel room for the weekend) -- but I can afford it more than I can afford the stress of trying to beg my friends into covering it or missing Windycon if they wouldn't.
