I put the nice Honeycrisp apple I bought last night in my briefcase last night so I wouldn't forget to take it to work for when I get the munchies. And a couple of minutes ago, I reached into the briefcase and pulled out an apple which had a chunk chewed out of it.

I used to think mice were nice, cute, and harmless, until I moved to the country. Now I understand the practical reason why humans domesticated cats. I need a cat, an indestructible cat my dogs won't kill. (A domestic one, that my government won't confiscate from me. Besides, a tiger wouldn't actually be good for catching mice.)

I do hope you know that *some* mice can be tamed and actually be extremely friendly -- but even the very pretty "fancy mice" Louie has so many of will act pretty much like "wild mice" when they escape. (She does have some part-wild mice, from when does escape and come back pregnant, but is reluctant to incorporate captured "fully wild" mice into her mousery, as they try very, very hard to flee and are likely to bite if held.) I do know that some cats are far better mousers than others, but don't know how to tell in advance. And how do you know your dogs wil be hostile toward the new member of the animal family? (Serious question.)

We had a couple of pet mice when I was a kid.

My dogs have killed a couple of cats. (Well, Windy was involved; I haven't had Meg that long.) At least one feral that wandered into the yard with them, and one that belonged to the neighbors when a contractor doing work on the house let them out. And the breeder says that it's normal behavior for malamutes that aren't raised with cats.

I have 3 bunnies and a cat in a house that I want to bring a rhodesian into. This is going to be a very slow and trying time, I am sure.
