Kickapoo walk
Nov. 17th, 2007 02:19 pmI had an attack of the lumpish blahs last night (that is, I just sat around and felt cruddy) that I stupidly let myself wallow in until past my bedtime, so I slept late (until 8:00, so decadent). I still felt blah, and I was cold. I finally got over to Kickapoo by a little after 10:00. I finally started to warm up, both physically and metaphorically, about a mile into my walk, perhaps not coincidentally at the same time as I actually saw a butterfly. We've had nights in the 20s, and I hadn't expected to see another (wild) butterfly until spring, but there was one of those guys with the three sets of eye spots, which I have learned is called a Buckeye. I actually saw a sulphur later in the day; there were some gnats or midges or something by one of the ponds, and even a bird that I believe was a warbler. And it was nice and sunny, despite the prediction I thought I heard that it would be mostly cloudy all weekend.
An altogether pleasant walk, probably about 4 miles total, but by the time I got back to my car I thought it was time for lunch, and I hadn't brought anything more than an apple and a couple of granola bars, so I headed home. I'll try to get out of the house for another walk toward sunset.
