Panic called off

I'd searched my car fairly thoroughly last night, but (perhaps superstitiously) I looked one more time this morning.  The checkbook was in the driver's side foot well.  I had looked there but not as thoroughly as the passenger side (having failed to put it back in the briefcase I would most likely have left it on the passenger seat).

Someday I might feel stupid for getting myself so tied in knots about this, but I'm just relieved.
