Coyote!

On my way home from work today, I saw a coyote on the side of the road! I know they're around. I sometimes hear them singing at night. Sadly, I've seen a few road kills. But this is the first time I've seen one (alive) close enough that I'm really sure it wasn't a dog.

In other news, I took advantage of the really beautiful day to take a walk around the "block", where I was eaten alive by the massed armies of mosquitoes, apparently unfazed by both the recent population explosion of damselflies and my application of DEET. If I find out who's making the gas masks for those little suckers, I'm gonna hurt them...

I don't know that the DEET wasn't helping -- I didn't do a controlled experiment -- but I was still getting chewed up badly even though I did put some on. I may not have effectively applied it to all the vulnerable places; I try to use a minimal amount of the stuff.
