ladyat, who I'm privileged to count a friend, tells us that her new day job is at an Episcopal church.  I wanted to preserve part of my comment there.

I'm not Christian, but I respect the people who are actually trying to live up to what I know of the teachings of Jesus. It's the ones who think carefully selected verses of Leviticus are more important that disgust, frighten, and infuriate me in turns. My knee-jerk reaction is to think of the latter kind whenever I hear words like "church" and "reverend". That's not the person I want to be, so I thank you for the opportunity to contemplate it.

Episcopalians (of which I am one) are a nice bunch. Some lean more conservative, some lean more liberal. The church itself has a female presiding Bishop and an ordained Bishop who is openly gay and in a committed relationship.

Although not everyone in the church is comfortable with everything, for the most part people work and play together quite well. I've met many priests who were pretty open and understanding about other religions as well, and I've never seen an Episcopal church office that gave office employees any kind of crap about what they believe or how they practice what they believe.
