I think hope harbor some delusions that I'm past the worst of this cold and will be more or less functional tomorrow.  I haven't missed a Windycon since I got into fandom, and I don't want to start now.

For those out there who are also attending, a few points:

  • As I said, I have a cold.  If you want to avoid me, I'll understand.  I can use hugs, though.
  • If anyone still wants to hang out with me anyway, I'd be just thrilled to make a plan ahead of time for dinner Friday or Saturday.
  • If you want an EFRC calendar, please track me down.  I will have a limited number with me, so to be sure you get one, say so.
  • If you're picking up one of my games, don't let me forget to connect with you.
  • If anyone familiar with the location of the hotel would care to give an independent opinion of how to get there from I-57 on Friday afternoon, feel free.  The con web site recommends taking Roosevelt Rd. from 294, bypassing I-88 entirely.  That looks like a long way on surface streets just looking at the map, so I'd like to know if there's a good reason to go that way.
  • I won't have anything in the art show.  I haven't found a satisfactory solution to the framing/matting problem.

Yes. (However, please note that I-57 and I-355 do not directly connect. You'll need to jog across on I-80 WESTBOUND.

If you run it on Google Maps, and then pull the route to make the I-80 to I-355 loop (rather than the I-294 to I-88 loop), it'll still try to get you to get onto I-88 briefly to exit onto Highland. Don't - I-88 is under pretty heavy construction (hence the bypass suggestion on the website). 355 will have an exit onto Butterfield Rd.

Once you're on Butterfield, go East. You have two choices - Butterfield forms the southern perimeter of the mall that the hotel is on the northern outlot of. You can either go up Highland (the eastern perimeter) and across on 22nd St, or go past Highland on Butterfield, turn left into the mall, and go along the mall perimeter. Look at the zoomed-in map to figure out a) which sounds better and b) what it'll look like.

Right..I knew as I was typing it in I was missing a road....

I tend to take US-52 across from Kankakee to Joliet...I-80 is kind of just "there" to me.

For some reason, I had the notion that the hotel was a long way east of 355 (so that was a long detour). With another look at the map, that makes sense.

Oh, yes. Take I-355 if you have a choice (and you do!).

My personal philosophy is, that if I'm going to be in Chicago Traffic during PM drive time, I'd *MUCH* rather be among drivers on a "surface" road who are *expecting* to be going 45 mph than on any kind of expressway where they are frustrated and angry at not moving faster.

My plan (coming up I-57 through central IL) is to turn left on US-30, run west to US-45, then take *that* north to Roosevelt. Thence westward again.

there is a handy phone number called traffic line live.

312-222-9456

i use it a lot as i get into my car and head off.
355 is a toll road i think it will cost $2.50.
tell the traffic line guy your going from 80 west to butterfield on 355. good travel time would be under an hour.

since i-65 north is questionable with construction, i usually take 30 east to 41 north then hop onto 80/94 west. you need to pay a toll ( stupid toll to go about a half mile ) stay in the middle and to get to 80 west bound. when 80 is clear your on it for about 10 to 20 minuets befor you get to 355. ( new section opened about 2 years now) then follow directions getting off at butterfield/56.

FOR AVOIDING TOLLS
if your going north on us-45 head west on cermak/22ed street after you pass us-83 (n/s) 22ed becomes butterfield/56.

(going to roosvelt is farther north than is reasonable.)

the hotel is tall white building easily seen from westbound 22ed street, unless your too far north on roosvelt.

TO HOTEL FROM 355
if your on 355 getting off at butterfield you turn right, the first light is finley. notice the tall white hotel ahead slightly to the left

the next (second) light is a strip mall entrance
go past exit for highland,
stay left,
the third light is to Yorktown mall. get into the 'right' turn lane.
turn left then turn right and you are on the road to the hotel.
