I don't know how many LJ readers attended Milwauke Irishfest this year or might attend in the future. (I was hoping to have posted a report about my experiences, but I would want to include pictures, and I have to be at work to upload the pictures to the web server, but I don't want to take the time to write a long LJ entry at work.) But if you're in either category, and you have an opinion about the desirability of having someone near you smoking a cigar while you're at a festival, I'd encourage you to tell the Irishfest folks about it. As far as I know, comments should be addressed to ifest@execpc.com.

Subject: Cigars, yuck!

Again this year, I traveled to Milwaukee from central Illinois for Irishfest, and I had a great time, heard lots of wonderful music, spent too much money, and all that. But there was one thing that really detracted from my enjoyment of the festival, and that was the very large number of people smoking cigars. Nothing spoils great music for me like having to breathe through my mouth through the whole performance so I won't be nauseated by the smell.

I know it's a free country, and I wouldn't even mention it, except for the fact that there are vendors on the grounds SELLING the accursed things, actively encouraging people to smoke them there. I'm sure that Irishfest management could disallow sales of cigars if they chose to do so, so I am writing in the hope that mine will not be the only voice saying that that is just what they should do.

Thank you for your consideration.
