In another journal, someone linked this comic in as a comment, and it is so profoundly true that I'm going to repost it here where I'll see it again. I'm not going to spend today trying to write a post about my feelings.
Well, the man himself said that we were to worship and pray in private. He gave an unflattering word to those who worship loudly and where all may see them doing so.
Actually, I spend most of my argumentative battle spoons against the members of my own congregation. Since unlike them, I was raised Catholic and not Protestant, I don't have a "born-again" date like the character in the strip above. Also, I keep trying to shed twin beams of light on their attitudes about themselves and their own justification. One is of an "outside light" (how non-Christians view them), and the other is of the real meaning of the Scripture they endorse (which not as "Yay for our side!" as they think it is, once someone starts to study it in chronic depth).
The only Christian meme that I consciously choose to "enforce" (i.e., get perceivably mad when it's violated) out here outside my church is the one about "Love your neighbor as yourself". (It's thematically related to "the Second Greatest Commandment," when Jesus said to his followers, "Love one another as I have loved you." I figure that if that one can be made universal, then "the First Greatest Commandment" about loving God can adequately take care of itself.)
