So, this afternoon before I went out, I went around the house baiting all the mousetraps with the peanut butter I bought just for them.  On both the trip plates and the springs, in the case of the old-fashioned spring traps.  Just now, I looked around to check the traps.

The mice definitely love peanut butter.  They cleaned all the peanut butter off all the traps in the kitchen.  Without tripping a single one.  They don't seem to have found the ones in the office next to the printer.  I'll have to hope they like the poison I also bought, since they seem to be too clever for the traps.

Can you mix the poison into the peanut butter?

Try gluing a Reese Candy (shell around peanut butter basically) to the trigger. They won't be able to eat it without applying some pressure and firing the trap.

I worry about the poison, both ethically and the possible danger to other animals. Sounds like you have smart mice ;) I would try hard salami or jerky - it's a lot harder to pull off a trap. Also try and place the traps so they have to approach them from the front half. Good luck! :) *hugz*

If you have a cat, do not use the poison! One of my friends accidentally killed her cat who "never" caught mice by poisoning the mice.

Her cat did catch and kill an erratically behaving dying, poisoned mouse, and was poisoned, too.

I have used this kind of mouse trap

With great success. They were more effective than the old school ones.

Another thing to do, which I did today and caught a mouse is to put a raisin or craisin in the peanut butter. While the mouse will lick the peanut butter gently, it will often tug at the fruit stuck in the goop, and trigger the trap.
