Handyman Phil 3: The search for space
Dec. 17th, 2004 02:56 pmA few weeks ago, I got the notion that I could improve the organization of my bedroom if I had some hooks in a convenient location to hang clothes that I had worn recently and planned to wear again soon, and I decided that if I could get one of the combination knick-knack shelf and hooks kits, I could solve that problem and also have a place to put some other things.
Since I was at Lowe's looking for something else anyway on Wednesday, I decided to find one of these kits that I thought I remembered from a previous trip. Unfortunately, they didn't actually have what I wanted. The only kits that combined a hook board and a shelf were in one case too small and in another, both too big and pre-painted white. I ended up getting a kit that was pretty much the shelf I wanted and separately some hooks that were more or less what I was looking for and a board to attach them to.
This afternoon, I managed to install the shelf and hooks reasonably successfully:

I collect stuffed animals. Not in the serious collector way, I just have and look for stuffed animals that I actually like. Most stuffed animals are really pretty cheesy, which keeps me from having a houseful of them, but I do have several. The real reason I wanted to have a shelf and not just a hook board was that I figured it was a good place to put some of my stuffed animals that have been kind of lying around in various places. I quickly realized the shelf was smaller than I'd imagined it would be when I started trying to arrange stuffed animals on it, but a few of them now have a better home:
