Virus help?

I think I may have picked up a weird computer virus.

See, everything seems to be working normally on my machine, except that everything I do is too slow.

But it's not the computer that's running slow.  I'm running slow.  I got home a bit past 8:30, read my email (skipping a good number of the GT list messages that I wasn't interested in), skimmed my friends page, and wrote the previous two entries.  This could have taken an hour, maybe an hour and a half tops, but it's almost 1 now.  Something's wrong here.

Suggestions or advice welcomed.

Your brain may be infected with spyware. Some of the latest types affect the hypothalamus and basal ganglia in particular, with concomitant involvement of the occipital and parietal cortex, which can slow down the perception and processing of language. You will probably want to download a reputable brain-cleaning software such as KortiKleen, BraneScrub, or MentalFloss and run it twice a day for about a week; you should see your mental processes returning to normal by the end of that time.

Do not listen to any recommendations that you should reformat your cerebrum to eliminate this kind of malware. That is absolutely not necessary and can result in severe side effects.

Is there a good brain firewall to limit recurrence of these problems?

I'd recommend Mind Trap from Symantec...but be careful with the Parental Controls.
