A few years ago, I ran a fantasy campaign, using a rules system that started as AD&D 3.0 but was somewhat unrecognizable by the time I got done with it.  I loved the campaign, but the players I had weren't really very interested in the kind of campaign I was running, which caused me to lose the motivation to do the considerable amount of work I needed to do to prepare the adventure, and it lapsed.  I still play with a group of mostly the same people, and the campaigns are simple-minded hack and slash.  We're probably going to be abandoning one of the campaigns we're running in a few months, which will create an opening for me to try my hand at DMing again.  Thinking about this has gotten me interested in the rules system again, but so far I've been unable to get any of the players to actually discuss any of the material I'm working on, even though I'm trying to get them to start working on creating characters.

The reason I'm posting this is not actually to whine about my game group, though; I want to see if anyone reading my journal is actually interested in talking about how I'm rearranging the rules for my campaign, or about Third Edition AD&D rules issues in general.  I am posting my rules as I develop them on a website, but I don't want to advertise it to the web as a whole.  If you're on my friends list, go to this entry and click on the link to the web page.  If you're not on my f-list, but you're interested, email me at my LJ address and I can point you to the page.  (I'm sorry about the inconvenience, but I want to keep a low profile with this material so that I don't have to discuss whether everything I'm doing is covered under fair use or OGL with any lawyers.  By not public advertising this site and hiding it from search engines, I think I have a moral claim that it's unpublished material for my own use and the use of my friends.)

Does anybody care?  I could write bunches of journal entries about this stuff, but I'd be cluttering a lot of people's friends pages with stuff they probably aren't interested in.  On the other hand, I'd really like to have someone to discuss with.

i think it's your journal and if you want to talk about something, you should feel free to bring it up whenever you want.

On a somewhat unrelated note: have you seen "The Gamers" ?? i highly recommend it if you're into D&D any edition.

If all I want to do is talk, I can do that -- but what I really want is people who will talk back to me.

Never heard of "The Gamers". Is it a movie? TV show? Comic?

a) your journal :) write what you want, and if you're really worried about clutter use lj-cuts :)

b) actually, i do care :) Find it quite interesting!

c) despite that, won't do you any good as far as actual discussion. I've never *gasp* played any tabletop RPGs :) The closest i've come was MUDing back in the early 90's, and there you didn't really have to know much about stats and rules as it was all built into the coding. Also, tended to more of the H&S sort (as that's where my friends were) so the RP aspects were pretty low-key (non-existant sometimes). Still, adds up to "no base to grasp/discuss tweaks from." Sorry :(

I'd follow a cut tag to read the information about the campaign. I mastered my campaign under the original AD&D rules (modified, of course); I'm not sure how much useful comment I could provide.
